Best Android TV Box (2018) | PrimeCables TV Box

Hey guys, Mark here again, and today we’regoing to be taking a look at the Primecables Android TV Box..

Let’s jump in.

Primecables is a Canadian company that kindlyoffered me this TV Box for free to test out.

Just a disclaimer, they didn’t pay me forthis review and I’m not affiliated with Primecables, so everything you’re aboutto hear is my own personal and honest opinion.

With that out of the way, let’s take a lookat it.

The TV Box itself seems to be very well made.

It’s lightweight and though it’s madeof plastic, it doesn’t feel cheap at all.

I/O is simple but it has all the options youneed.

The rear has the DC power port, an opticalaudio port, hdmi, ethernet, an AV port and a port for an IR reciever to extend the rangeof the remote.

On the side, it also has two USB 2.

0 portsas well as a micro SD card slot for storage expansion.

One cool feature here that I didn’t expectto work is that you can actually plug your computer peripherals into the USB ports andthey will function normally.

I stopped using the remote in favour of mywireless Logitech G900 mouse.

Booting up the TV box, the PrimeCables andAndroid logos appear and within 20 seconds, the box is fully booted into android 7.

1.

Of course, there’s a skin on top of it thatlooks.

.

.

less than amazing but aesthetic is hardly important here.

What is important is the performance of themachine, which I was pleasantly surprised with.

It seems to be very responsive to the IR remotewith very little input delay or load time.

The TV box is running an AMLOGIC quad coreprocessor and 2 gigabytes of DDR3 ram coupled with 16 gigabytes of internal storage.

The first thing I tried was some 4K proresfootage from a Blackmagic Mini Ursa.

This two minute short film has a very highbit rate and was a total size of 1.

4 gigabytes, but it ran without a hitch on the box.

Actually, that seemed to be the case withpretty much any file type and any resolution.

It seems to be very well optimized for playingvideo files, which I guess makes sense given it’s a device dedicated to playing videofiles, anyway.

.

.

Offline playback of video files stored on the main drive, usb stick, or micro sd card works flawlessly.

But what about streamed video? First of all, network connectivity was nevera problem.

The TV box has both an ethernet port as wellas an internal 2.

4 gigahertz wifi card, and I didn’t notice any difference in internetspeed on either of them.

Streamed video seemed to play just as well, with one drawback.

Unfortunately, I could only get videos tostream on YouTube and Netflix at 720p.

It’s not a huge deal for people with poorinternet speeds or smaller sized TV’s, but if you want those bigger files you’llhave to download them.

The final thing to talk about is somethingthat is a little less important, but is definitely worth mentioning.

Even though this is a TV Box dedicated tomedia playback, because it’s an android box it can also download pretty much any appon the Google play store.

This includes games, productivity apps, etcetera.

I had quite a bit of fun playing some oldsonic games and even minecraft on the TV box.

You can use a remote for this, but I’d recommendplugging in a controller.

The box also comes preinstalled with a forkof KODI called KDMC, which is an open source media manager that you can add a ton of mediaapps to.

It’s pretty cool if you want to mess aroundand get some extra functionality of your android tv box.

So what do I honestly think about this littlePrimecables Android TV box? It’s pretty good.

I mean, the skin that they have applied overthe android os is pretty ugly and you can’t stream full 4k footage on it, but you caninstall a ton of apps to it, play offline video in any resolution with no problems whatsover, it has great performance, and best of all, it’s super cheap coming in at 60 canadiandollars.

So that’s it for this video, if you likedit, hit that like button and subscribe to show your support, and if you didn’t, letme know why in a comment below, I love hearing your feedback.

Thanks for watching, and have a great day.
